Pallet Flow Racks utilize a combination of elevated beams and dynamic components (wheels or rollers) within a pallet rack supported structure. Pallet flow puts the power of gravity to work not requiring any power being run to the system. This type of racking system provides:
- High density storage
- FIFO or first in first out inventory control with automatic rotation
- Best for similar size pallets and sku's and high volume items
- Load system on the high end and unload on the low end
Pallet flow racking is a first in first out (FIFO) racking system. The system is designed based on two parts
1. Dynamic elements that move the product down the flow lane
2. Static elements that physically support the system
The dynamic elements of the system consist of various wheels or roller components installed in a downward fashion allowing gravity to do the work moving the pallet through the system. The type of roller is dictated by the type of pallets and the weight of the pallets. Brakes are sometimes installed in the system to control the speed of the pallets moving through the racking system.
Pallet flow rack is loaded on the higher end and unloaded on the lower end. These rack systems are often seen with entry guides to protect the loading side and to make sure the pallet is centered up on the rollers when put into the system. Pallet Flow rack is considered a high density racking system because it allows you to eliminate all forklift aisles except for the loading and unloading side. With virtually no limit to how deep you can go with these systems, it is a great solution for customers with limited floor space and the right pallets.
